A novel stretchable, rechargeable, multimodal sensing device is designed for emotion detection and psychological assessment. The device features a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) that incorporates a microcontroller, a non-transitory computer-readable medium, a Bluetooth transceiver, and a sensor array. This sensor array is capable of collecting data related to skin strain, temperature, humidity, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation. By transmitting this data wirelessly to external devices or cloud platforms, the system facilitates personalized emotion recognition and mental health monitoring.
Flexible hybrid electronics combine the benefits of soft, stretchable sensors with high-performance rigid components, creating fully integrated systems for health monitoring and human-machine interfaces. Multimodal sensing is essential for accurately assessing physiological and psychological well-being. Traditional methods relying solely on facial expressions often lead to inaccurate emotion detection due to individual and social differences. Therefore, integrating multiple physiological parameters provides a more comprehensive understanding of emotional states.
The device is engineered to independently measure biaxial strain, temperature, humidity, heart rate, and SpO2 with minimal cross-interference. It utilizes a multilayered FPCB and a vertically stacked sensor array to enhance wearability and maintain accuracy under mechanical deformation. Wireless power and data transmission modules enable seamless integration with mobile devices and cloud platforms, facilitating remote health monitoring and emotion detection through advanced neural network models.
The sensor array is strategically designed to decouple signals effectively. For instance, the humidity sensor is placed proximal to the inner surface with a protective hydrophobic layer, while a rigid layer adjacent to the temperature sensor minimizes strain effects. The sensors feature serpentine shapes to enhance stretchability and reduce strain effects. The device supports wireless charging, with power sources designed in serpentine shapes for flexibility.
The device enables a method for detecting emotions by collecting sensor data and transmitting it to a machine learning model, which processes the data to identify emotional states. This model can be hosted on various platforms, enhancing the device's utility in real-time emotion monitoring and psychological assessment. The design and methodology offer significant potential for applications in health monitoring and early intervention for mental health issues.
